POC Local Talent product, Aaron Blunck, takes X-Games gold in new Clarity lens

Aaron Blunck delivered on his prodigious talent with a gold in the men’s SuperPipe at the 2017 X-Games in Aspen. POC and Aaron have been working closely for over five years, which saw him start his progress with POC’s North American Local Talent Program (LTP). Taking gold whilst wearing POC’s newly unveiled Clarity goggle lenses, which have been designed around the needs of competition athletes, topped off a truly great night in Aspen.

POC, a leading manufacturer of helmets, eyewear, body armor and apparel, has been awarded more than 50 international safety, design, and innovation awards. Founded in 2005 in Sweden, POC’s mission is ‘to do the best we can to possibly save lives and to reduce the consequences of accidents for gravity sports athletes and cyclists’.

Willie Ford, POC Managing Director, North America, said - “We are extremely proud of Aaron. Over five years ago he joined our POC team and became part of our Local Talent Program (LTP) in North America and it has been a privilege to watch and support his progress ever since. Not only has he gone on to become one of the best skiers around, which is evident in his X-Games gold medal, but he has also become a great friend, with a big heart and an incredibly positive attitude. We are extremely happy for him and hope it’s the beginning of a great run.”

POC, which has built a reputation on safety, innovation and design, recently announced several new major innovations for its 2017/18 snow collection at SIA 2017. One of which is POC Clarity, which are brand new precision and performance goggle lenses, and were worn by Aaron during the X-Games.

Aaron, who despite only being twenty years old and who has already been competing at the highest level for several years, added – POC and I have had a long relationship! They picked me up at the age of fifteen for the LTP program and from then they have always been really supportive and helpful with everything I've needed! The backing POC has given me has helped me make the leap from the LTP program to the international team and the new Clarity lens is the best lens I've ever worn. The definition it creates was a huge factor on the night of X-Games! Dropping in knowing I would have no lens issues was huge and gave me tons of support!

Willie Ford, POC Managing Director, North America, added “The POC mission is at the very centre of the development process. We work closely with our athletes and understand that their vision is the gateway to performance and decision making and we are extremely proud to have been able to support Aaron with his incredible result.”

Notes to editors

Clarity has been developed with industry leaders, Carl Zeiss, to provide unique, highly tuned and specific base tints, which provide enhanced contrast and light. Better vision will support performance with more precise turns and faster reactions, but Clarity can also improve an athlete’s safety and ability to react to dangers.

Clarity will come in two categories, Clarity and Clarity comp, which have base tints tuned to all day precision on the mountain and intense short term competition needs. Clarity will be available in some existing goggle models, but we will also release a brand new goggle, Orb Clarity, for 17/18.
